A heavy downpour in Kyiv on August 18 again caused flooding downtown. Shopping centers and underground car parks were also affected by flooding. In particular, an underground parking, a supermarket and a restaurant were flooded in the Gulliver Shopping Mall.
The Kyiv City State Administration says a new thunderstorm with gusts of wind and hail is expected in Kyiv on August 19.
Ukraine’s Western city of Lviv saw some of the heaviest rainfall in years. The water level on several streets reached nearly one meter high.
Traffic was also at a standstill, cars were being submerged, and public transport passengers were trapped by flooding.
Emergency service workers carried out of transport more than 130 people, including 15 children throughout the day.
Some people became stranded at bus shelters in the city center.
Some 72 emergency service workers were deployed to the city and at least 18 vehicles.
Ukraine was hit by thunderstorms and downpours which caused flooding in late June.
The situation has improved since Friday. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadoviy, promised to improve the conditions in order to avoid a similar situation from happening again.
