At least 18 people were injured and more than 300 were taken out of their homes because of a fire that struck Saturday night and Sunday morning, the municipalities of Sintra and Cascais.

The fire began at 10.50 am Saturday in Peninha, Sintra, and headed towards Cascais with great force, "influenced by the strong wind". The strong winds, which were nearly 100 kilometers per hour, were the main setback in fighting the flames.

By 07.45 hours, the fire was being fought by 740 operatives, supported by 219 vehicles.
