In a tragic incident, a bus carrying 30 passengers fell from Mahanadi bridge near Jagatpur in Odisha's Cuttack on Tuesday, resulting in the death of at least 12 people.

As per news agency ANI, the accident occurred after the bus hit a buffalo on the bridge, following which it veered off and plunged off the bridge. Several passengers have also been seriously injured in the accident, reports said.

Rescue teams were present at the spot. District administration officials and local police have also reached the accident site, a news portal reported.

Odisha chief minister Navin Patnaik has expressed "deep grief" at the death of passengers in the accident and has also announced an ex-gratio of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased, as well as free treatment to those injured.

Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams, as well as fire brigade personnel and local residents, were carrying out the rescue operations at the accident site, sources told the local news channel.
