15 people involved in a chemical leak at a Devon factory have been taken to hospital for treatment.
The South Western Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST) confirmed that casualties were taken by ambulance to both the Musgrove Park Hospital in Somerset and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Fire and ambulance crews were called to the 2 Sisters factory on Lloyd Maunder Road in Willand at about at 3.52pm today.
Staff had been evacuated into the car park and nearby residents reported seeing lots of "flashing blue lights". Initial reports suggested a gas leak but a fire service spokesman said there had been a "suspected chemical leak from a storage tank".
And in the last few minutes it has been confirmed that 15 casualties have been taken to hospital as a result of the incident.
A spokesman for SWAST said: "We were called today at 3.45pm about a reported gas leak on Lloyd Maunder Road, Willand. "There were 15 patients, but none were thought to be in a serious condition. "Three patients were transported by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital for treatment.
"The others were taken by ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital."Speaking earlier this evening, a spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called there at 3.52pm and four fire appliances attended.
"There is a suspected chemical leak from a storage tank. "We are awaiting the arrival of an external specialist company."
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We had a call from the fire service requesting our assistance with traffic control at this incident.
"However, all our officers are busy at present and we haven't been able to get anyone there."
