The CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point is warning the public that large numbers of Portuguese man-of-war jellyfish have been sighted along eastern and northern shores of the Marianas.

The public is being warned to avoid the. Also, a trade-wind swell will continue to produce a high risk of rip currents along east facing reefs through at least Wednesday night, based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam.

A beach hazards statement is now in effect through Tuesday and there is a high risk of rip currents through Wednesday night.

The persistent trade-wind swell has pushed large numbers of Portuguese man-of-war jellyfish toward the eastern and northern shores of the Marianas.

These jellyfish are seen both on the beaches and in the water. The trade-wind swell will also produce a high risk of rip currents along east facing reefs through at least Wednesday night.

The public is advised to stay away from the waters and avoid touching jellyfish washed up on the beaches as this can cause extreme pain.

If you are caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current. The safest course of action is to stay in shallow water near the beach.
