In Tajikistan, the avalanche blocked the Dushanbe-Khujand-Chanak highway, the only road connecting the north and south of the country.
The road was blocked on September 20 by the decision of the operational headquarters, which includes representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Transport. The movement was closed in the area from the 47th kilometer (Plaza Khusheri) towards Khujand and from the 81st kilometer (Aini district) towards Dushanbe. On a stretch between 63-73 kilometers, clearing of snow blockages continues.
According to the Tajikistan Committee for Emergency Situations, traffic is also hampered on the roads Dushanbe - Aini, Dushanbe - Lakhsh, Dushanbe - Khorog, Khorog - Ishkashim, Khorog - Murghab, as well as on the pass Kizil-Art. Rescue rapid response teams have been set up on the Dushanbe-Khujand and Dushanbe-Khorog routes. The ministry reported that in the next two days heavy snowfalls and avalanches are expected in most mountainous regions of the republic. In this regard, the CoES recommended that drivers refrain from traveling through mountain and avalanche-prone areas.
The committee also published recommendations to citizens in case they still need to go. Rescuers advise to fully fill the car, provide the necessary transport for the chains, take a first-aid kit, warm clothes, a flashlight, a shovel, a towing cable, matches, fuel canisters, and also have several SIM cards with them.
