Heavy rains caused landslides near Caranavi (Caranavi province) over the weekend of February 2-3.

According to officials, the landslides, which were reported along Routa 3 linking Caranavi to La Paz, killed at least 14 people and injured 34 more.

In addition, at least seven people remain missing as of Wednesday, February 6.

Further landslides are possible in the area as rain is forecast through Monday, February 13.

Individuals in Caranavi province are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate flooding and associated transportation disruptions, including road closures, and remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm of moving water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
