A British man was today in a critical condition in hospital after being injured in a terrorist car bomb attack yesterday on a popular resort in the Costa del Sol.
The British Embassy in Madrid said three Britons were among six casualties of the blast near the Hotel Las Piramides in Fuengirola, about 12 miles east of Malaga, on the Costa del Sol.
A spokeswoman said two British children were among the group who suffered minor injuries in the explosion.
The spokeswoman at the British Embassy later said there had been a second blast in Spain, at 1.05pm local time, six hours after the first at 7.05am local time.
She said: "A car bomb went off in Marbella. It doesn't appear as if anyone was hurt.
"It appears there was a warning before the explosion and that everyone was evacuated from the building."
Speaking at the EU summit in Seville, southern Spain, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw told journalists: "I would like to express my profound concern and anger at the two car bombs which have exploded in southern Spain, at Marbella and Fuengirola."

A young British woman and an Irish tourist were among 13 people injured when a car bomb exploded outside a busy hotel in Spain's Costa Dorada today.
The bomb exploded at 8 AM local time outside the Cala Font hotel in Salou, south of Barcelona, which was packed with holidaymakers.

The blast came just minutes after a warning to authorities from Basque separatist terror group ETA.

Police had to evacuate 200 guests, many of them British and Italian.

The injured were hit by debris and suffered minor cuts and bruises, according to local reports.

The latest attack follows the discovery of a bomb that failed to go off at Malaga airport last month and threats from the Spanish terror group which is demanding a separate Basque state.

The group has been plotting a campaign to target Spain's lucrative tourist trade.

Spain’s King Felipe VI used his traditional Christmas Eve televised address to call on Cataluña's newly elected parliament to act responsibly and renounce further moves toward secession from Spain.
